At the gala ceremony of GTR Charity Awards on Thursday, 26 June, more than 300 trade finance leaders gathered to honour the best trade finance transactions awards.

The bank’s Trade Finance and Lending team received the GTR Best Deal 2025 awards for ‘Salzgitter Group green steel transformation‘ and the ‘Olounou-Oveng road extension’. Given that only 12 deals are awarded and GTR received several hundred entries, to land two out of 12 is a significant accolade.

Although further information about the full list of Best GTR Deals of 2024 is available on their website, here is short summary of the two Deutsche Bank wins:

• The Olounou-Oveng road expansion. The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development Cameroon (MINEPAT) signed a SACE-backed loan for a strategic national road project of around 70km between Olounou and Oveng – the strategic route between Cameroons capital (Younde) and neighbouring Gabon. The €94.8m 13-year deal has provided a financial blueprint for SME exporters to get involved in future such deals in the country. For further information see the flow case study here.
• Salsgitter Group green steel transformation. This landmark €300m 11.5-year ECA deal (SACE and OeKB) is helping Salzgitter one of Europe’s largest steelmakers, launch an ambitious project to dramatically reduce its carbon emissions, including by replacing blast furnaces with electric arc furnaces and construction direct reduction iron ore plants.
